Alex Davis
Artist and Designer - Stefano Giovanonni studio
Mr. Alex Davis is an artist and a designer, who lives and works in New Delhi, India.
A graduate in Mechanical Engineering and an alumnus of the prestigious National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, Alex majored in Industrial Design from Domus Academy, Milan. He has worked with international master designers of the stature of Andrea Branzi, Massimo Morozzi, Isao Hosoe, Ezio Manzini, Marco Susani and Mario Trimarchi. Alex has also designed a museum in Kathmandu. He is a visiting faculty at his alma mater, NID, a rare honour in the world of Asian design.
Alex has worked with Stefano Giovanonni studio in Milano, designing products for Italian companies including Alessi and Magis. This designer has won various international design competitions including the International Glassware Design 1996, organised by the Italian National Institute of Architects (INARCH) and Society of Italian Crystalware Manufacturers and the Elle EDIDA 2003 for lighting design. He was awarded the Jindal Stainless Steel Award for Excellence in use of stainless steel in Product Design in 2006 and has been selected one of the top ten designers in India by the India Today Group. He was part of a team of artists and designers, including such illustrious names as Subodh Gupta, Anjolie Ela Menon, David Abraham and Jason Cherian involved in designing special limited edition pieces as a part of the celebration of the 25 th Anniversary of Bombay Brasserie, London.
He was awarded EDIDA DESIGNER OF THE YEAR 2007 by Elle Décor India.
His work epitomizes ‘India Modern’. One of the first to practise Designart , he has set a bench mark for original and contemporary design. Over span of time from 2004 till date he has produced a series of works namely I Went Fishing, 2004, My Lazy Garden 2007, The Moonlit Safari 2008, Hyper Blooms 2010, Dented Painted 2012, Once Upon a Time 2014 & The Bodhi Tree 2015
He has been showing his works through solo shows in various art galleries across India as well as at prestigious international fairs like Scenes d’interieur at Maison et Objet, Paris, Salone del Mobile Milano and Abitare il Tempo, Verona. He has exhibited ten times at the Maison et Objet Fair, Paris from 2007 – 2013 and has received much appreciation from prestigious clients of the stature of Le Bon Marche, Paris, The Conran Shop, London, Galeries La Fayette, Paris, MANGO, Barcelona and Plus BO, Paris. He had a solo booth at The India Art Fair in New Delhi in 2014 as well as being a part of The India Art Fair 2012-2016.
He dreams of bringing Designart into the mainstream in India as well as the world.
